I Was Arrested. What Am I Looking At?
When you are charged with any crime in California, your criminal case is prosecuted by the Prosecutor’s Office. As you know, prosecutors, the courts, and even the law, all want to show how tough they are against crime. Punishments includes potential jail time, loss of a job, and thousands of dollars in fines if not handled correctly. But you have rights, and can present every fact in your case and every defense. Don’t let the system excessively punish you without looking at all sides. Although you probably are still dealing with the impact from your arrest, your case mat be more serious than you realize.
Misdemeanors have a maximum (90 days, six months, or one to one year in jail, and a fine and fees that total $5000) and felony cases can carry substantially more punishment. Of course, every case also has a minimum, and cases are sometimes reduced to another charge, which would reduce the sentencing range.
