When are you most likely to be arrested for DUI –? You might be surprised at the answer. Orange County has the AVOID program, which schedules special DUI enforcement and DUI checkpoints around major holidays. But that doesn’t mean the chances of being arrested are most likely to directly correspond to a holiday.
When are you most likely to be arrested – DUI arrests and Holidays
There are several holidays you might expect arrests for DUI to increase around, including:
- New Year’s Eve
- Superbowl Sunday
- St. Patrick’s Day
- Cinco de Mayo
- Fourth of July
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
All of those are excuses for day drinking, night drinking, and parties that feature excessive alcohol consumption. However, the highest amount of DUI arrests in Orange County actually occur in the last weeks of the year.
When are you most likely to be arrested for DUI? The single evening with the most DUI arrests of the year is always the Saturday before Christmas, when many office parties, family parties, and house parties take place, at which unmeasured free alcohol is served freely, and people tend not to make plans to get hotel rooms or taxis. The second most frequent night for DUI arrests, also an evening many do not plan for, is the Friday after Thanksgiving – a night where people have the day off, and often visit with friends to drink and get away, or join with, family.
Orange County participates in the California AVOID program, which schedules special enforcement periods. But the arrest rates during the special enforcement periods are not significantly higher than normal weekends.
When are you most likely to be arrested for DUI – Days Of The Week
As far as days of the week, when are you most likely to be arrested for DUI? As you might expect, Orange County DUI arrests rise during Friday and Saturday evenings. Since “Sunday Funday” is a growing, uh, tradition, here in Orange County and elsewhere, Sunday is also a growing day for arrests. In Orange County, with 37 DUI arrests average during a Saturday evening, and 17 arrests average on a Tuesday evening, a weekend evening can be double the arrests for DUI, whether there is special enforcement or not.
All sorts of people get DUI cases. I have personally represented judges, politicians, prosecutors, other lawyers, doctors, dentists, accountants, nurses, teachers, and CEOs. They arrest a lot of people every day in Orange County.
